Labeling itself a "Survival Horror MMO" never felt right to me. A "Survival Horror" game is something that should scare you; it should build suspense and tension as you play, and force you to keep the lights turned on. In that regard, Requiem hasn't exactly kept true to its promise. However, its excessive use of blood, violence and gore does place it in an entirely new category of MMOs.

Welcome to Bloodymare
The first thing you'll notice when you start playing Requiem: Bloodymare is the gorgeous graphics, they are truly stunning. Requiem has three races and six playable classes. With each class having two different career paths, it brings the total number of classes to 18. The starting six classes are Defender, Templar, Warrior, Shaman, Rogue and Soul Hunter.

I'm sorry, did you say 192 Players!?
Right from the start, the speedy leveling coupled with a strong sense of character development will keep you hooked. Unlike most MMORPGs, the fast-paced combat is never boring. You'll constantly be hitting hot keys as you fight, which is significantly better than the "right click and wait" combat utilized by many other MMORPGs.

Another interesting aspect to the combat is its excessive gore. Requiem does label itself as a "horror" game, so if you're easily turned off by blood, turn down the gore level in the options menu.

Requiem's PvP system is also quite impressive, as up to 192 players (96vs96) can take part in a single battleground at any given time. Although PvP can get chaotic, especially with so many players, it's quite fun and challenging.

It's all about the DNA
Requiem also has a unique DNA system, which is simply another level of character customization. As they level, players can equip their characters with different combinations of DNA strands in order to gain new abilities.

Combining certain DNA with each other also yields special bonuses, so you'll have fun mixing and matching strands while advancing your character. This makes it so every Warrior or Berserker in the game is unique, which is definitely a welcome change from the limited customization in the majority of free MMORPGs.

Although Requiem is one of the better free MMORPGs on the market, it does have several bugs, which will hopefully be addressed in open beta. Requiem is prone to crashing on computers running Windows Vista, especially if you minimize the game. In addition, monsters will at times walk away from you during combat, which can be extremely annoying since you have to chase them down.

However, my biggest complaint lies in the lack of storytelling in Requiem. How can Gravity classify Requiem as a horror game, if it lacks a spooky story? If you scare easily, don't fret, Requiem isn't scary at all.
